BMB Class of 2021

We congratulate the following students who graduated in 2021 with majors in BMB.  We are proud of all you have accomplished here at Gettysburg College and all you will accomplish in the future.

Gyasu Bajracharya graduated magna cum laude with majors in BMB and Music, having studied abroad for a semester in Austria.  He was active in Professor James’ lab and spent two summers in undergraduate research at Penn State University. Gyasu was a member of Alpha Chi Rho, volunteered with Campus Kitchen and Food Land People and served as a residence coordinator and a student employee with the Biology Department. He also served on the Student Senate. Gyasu is employed as a Research Associate with the NGM Biopharmaceuticals Antibody Engineering Team.

Alec Beck graduated summa cum laude with a BMB major in December 2020. In addition to his studies, Alec held student employment with the Chemistry Department as a peer learning associate and with the Biology Department.  As a student, he volunteered at the Painted Turtle Farm and the Sherfy Garden.  He is working as a research assistant in the Autism and Developmental Medicine Institute at Geisinger Medicine Center and plans to attend graduate school for further study in genetics or genomics.

Meredith Brown graduated summa cum laude with a BMB major and a minor in Spanish.  As a student, Meredith played Women’s Basketball and volunteered with eRace, CASA ESL and Project Gettysburg-León. She was a member of the Gettysburg College EMS Club and DiscipleMakers Christian Fellowship. She is currently attending medical school at Temple University.

Matt Canonizado graduated cum laude with a BMB major and a minor in neuroscience, having studied for a semester in Egypt.  As a student, Matt was a member of DiscipleMakers Christian Fellowship.  He is
currently working as a Research Technologist at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, assisting with studies of malaria prophylaxis and epigenetic regulation.

Julia Clevinger graduated cum laude with a BMB major and a minor in Peace & Justice Studies, having studied abroad for a semester in Kenya.  As a student, Julia volunteered with the Adams County
Office for Aging, the Circles Initiative, El Centro, eRace, Food Land People, Project Gettysburg-León, Sherfy Garden and Work Ready. She held student employment with the Biology Department and played Women’s Rugby.  Julia is currently working as a mental health professional in Portland, Oregon.

Abby Deaven graduated magna cum laude with a BMB major and a minor in French in December 2020.  In addition to her studies, Abby worked for the Chemistry Department as a teaching assistant. She was a member of STEMinists, Biosphere and Swing! Club.  Abby is currently a graduate student in the University of Georgia Integrated Life Science Ph.D. program.

Nolan Graham graduated with a BMB major, having studied abroad for a semester in Germany.  In addition to his studies, he was active in Professor Sengupta’s research lab and served as president of the
student organization, Sceptical Chymists in AY21. Nolan also volunteered with El Centro.  After graduation, Nolan was employed as a lab technician with PrimBio Research Institute. Beginning in Fall 2022, he is enrolled in a Master’s program in Immunology at the University of California, San Diego and hopes to continue in their Ph.D. program.

Erik Gutshall graduated with a BMB major and a minor in Neuroscience.  In addition to his studies, he was a member of the DiscipleMakers Christian Fellowship and volunteered with eRace. He is employed as a lab technician and plans to attend graduate school in the future to study protein cell interactions.

River Larson-Pollock graduated with a BMB major and an English minor.  In addition to her studies, River worked for the Chemistry Department as a teaching assistant and for the Biology Department. She was a
member of Biosphere, DiscipleMaker Christian Fellowship and Il Circolo Italiano.  River is currently  attending Drexel University in the Molecular, Cell Biology, and Genetics PhD program. 

Carmelissa Norbrun graduated with a BMB major.  As a student, Carmelissa was a member of the International Club and volunteered with El Centro. She is continuing her studies as a graduate student at Brown University in the Pharmacology & Physiology Department.

Samantha Roth graduated with a BMB major and a minor in French, having studied abroad for a semester in France. She was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma and Biosphere.  She also volunteered with the Adams County Office for Aging. Her post-graduation plans included backpacking through Europe.  She is currently enrolled in a graduate program at Penn State University.

John Strobel graduated with a BMB major, having studied abroad for a semester in Norway.  As a student, John was employed in the Schmucker Art Gallery.

Peter Zhang graduated with a BMB major.  In  addition to his studies, Peter worked for the Chemistry Department as a peer learning associate and was a member of DiscipleMakers Christian Fellowship.  He is enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Chemistry at the University of Buffalo.
